Rest...

is something I have never done well. I've often been accused of having ADD, and who knows maybe I do. Recently, I have become more intentional about planned periods of rest, usually just a couple hours in a morning or evening, but occasionally a whole day, to just rest and reflect on what I've done and what I'm doing next. Of course, you may have caught in that last sentence how I have managed to make even these times "productive", it's a start!

I really enjoy reading magazines (Relevant, GOOD, Portfolio, and Money are all favorites) and listening to music when I'm "resting" too. The important thing is to slow down long enough to realize that this life is so much more than the next appointment or deadline. Some of my best "rest" is actually spent with others too. Usually my wife and/or son, but sometimes a friend, dad, mom, or total stranger can be a part of a time of rest and renewal. We were made for a purpose which we too often neglect and in order to reconnect with that purpose, rest is essential. For an in depth study, The Rest of God by Mark Buchanan.

Books I'm Reading

If you've talked to me for very long you already know that I am a book junkie. It hasn't always been like this but for the past few years I've had the goal or reading a book a week. I do best when I read them one at a time, but have recently picked up several that I'm chewing through all at once. They are:

Scripture as Communication by Jeannine Brown
Leading the Team Based Church by George Cladis
The Shack by William Young

I just finished a batch that had two of my new favorites EVER! Same Kind of Different as Me and The Rest of God. They both inspired me to not do more, but more of the right things. I often get busy, but my most effective moments come when I start saying no to some of the good to really focus on the great. Easier said than done, for me it's a daily process of starting at the top of the priority list and making sure that I spend time on those few most important things.---I think I will expand on the priority/schedule piece in a seperate blog. Just wanted to throw out the idea of constantly sharpening the saw through reading a variety of books on a variety of topics from a variety of sources.

The beginning, and end, of an Era!

I have finally given in! I've been avoiding starting a Blog ever since my friend Nathan Bradfield suggested it several years ago. My problem with it had always been feeling like it was a little self-indulgent to assume that others would read what I have to say, I know--shocking with my over inflated ego. Having started journaling, in earnest, at the beginning of the year, and since I've also just finished the second chapter of a new book, I've decided that it is finally time to consolidate some of my ramblings in a place to allow others to confirm just how silly my rants really are.

So there you have it, the grand inspiration for what will be the blog of Jeremy Moore. I will initially be filing content in three categories-- Faith, Family, and Folly. All of you who know me probably have already guessed that I will be filing more under folly than anything else, not intentionally, but for some reason my mind just likes to go there. Updates will be frequent and likely very random, but remember, this is a guy who did a high school english paper on the value of streams of consciousness just to get away with nonsense.

Enjoy, and please shoot me an email or comment about how unnecessary all this is anytime.
